| This was just one seating of two. Lots of crab fans! |
There are lots of volunteer fire department crab feeds in this part of California. Dungeness crab is plentiful at the nearby coast. Holding a crab feed is a great way to bring a community together and raise money for volunteer departments.
Our local department bought 1300 pounds of crab in Bodega at the crack of dawn Saturday morning to feed close to 300 guests Saturday night.

We also served barbecued oysters, sourdough bread, Caesar salad and cookies for dessert.

Bill, my husband, has been chief of our small town's fire department for nearly a year. This was his first time in this role at the crab feed and I think he, along with all the many helpful and hard-working volunteers, did a great job.
Other helpers included my stepson, his girlfriend, my stepdaughter, Tori, and her cousin. They pitched in by serving crab and selling drink tickets.

For the previous five crab feeds, I served wine and beer at the bar. But now that I'm the chief's wife, Bill gave me another job as mingler. Instead of playing bartender, I spent the evening talking to people, so much so, my voice became strained and scratchy halfway through the night.
It was a fun evening shared with lots of great people, both volunteers and patrons. It was also a pretty late night. We didn't sit down to eat our crab and salad dinner until 10:30!

Now for the Visible Monday part:
At last year's crab feed, I wore black. But this year, I decided to go red.
I wore red Gap skinny pants with zippered pockets, a black long sleeved top, black blazer, and pointy-toed pumps.
These shoes are not only comfortable but they are a great price. And they come in lots of great colors. I highly recommend them.
This bracelet always gets compliments. It's from Stella and Dot and gives me the effect of having lots of bracelets on without having to actually wear lots of bracelets. And they're not noisy like bangles can be when you stack them. I don't like noisy jewelry; a little pet-peeve of mine.
I have really gotten my $98 out of this jacket by Gibson. I like how the back hangs down a little lower than the front.
It's not available anymore. I bought mine well over two years ago, but Nordstrom carries a similar Gibson blazer that is just as cute - and it's on sale right now!
What sorts of local fundraisers do you attend in your area?
Spaghetti feeds? Cake walks? Barbecues?

I do remember last year's crab fest, and that Bill had already been appointed the Fire Chief, but had not yet stepped into his position. You were wondering at the time, how next year's event would be, and here it was.
You looked great - love the red for the crab theme. Los Angeles is too large to really have any "city" fundraisers (that I know of anyway) but in Martha's Vineyard there were a lot, and mostly consisted of clam bakes and auctions. One for the all volunteer fire department in the city we lived in there. They were fun community events. Congratulations on the success of this one. How long is Bill tenure as Chief?
The black and red looks smashing. I wish I could wear skinny pants and look as good as you do in them...but alas...
And your event sounds like a good time. I am considering going to a fund raiser at our local historic movie theater--they are raising money to upgrade the screen/equipment to keep in line with the times (digital). They are having an event for Oscar night. xo
You look wonderful in such a simple outfit. I can't believe you managed those shoes for 5 1/2 hours, but if you're having fun you don't always notice things like that.
The crab looks yummy! I haven't done any community meals in ages, but I used to love the Salmon Bake in Tacoma when I was teenager.
And I agree, noisy jewelry is irritating! I don't wear bracelets much at all because they just get in the way at work or bump up against my watch. I'm jealous when I see all the great bangles people wear, but I just can't do it.
What a great event! I live in the mountain area in Southern Germany and seafood - which I love - is very expensive here.
Your outfit is fantastic! I love it!!

OOO..I love crab! Looks like a fun event! I also love great fitting jackets like this one..they are so important to every woman's wardrobe. You look great, Adrienne!
Black and red are so classic and look amazing on you with your dark hair.
I've been eyeing those shoes for a while now.
bisous
Suzanne
Love the Crab pictures! And your red skinnies look fabulous, along with the great equestrian jacket -- thanks for that link, btw, that is one good-looking blazer. And thanks for linking up!
You look wonderful in your black and red outfit! Wish I could have been there to support your cause, especially since you were serving my favorite foods: crab, sourdough bread, and Caesar salad. What a great meal!

You look so beautiful!
I'm particularly partial to red and black, as they are the school colors for the University of Georgia. My daughter is a senior there and my husband graduated from there. We wear a LOT of red and black around here.
I'm glad that your fundraiser was such a success. I don't eat seafood but between the salad, the bread, and the bar, I would be very happy. Wish we lived closer so that we could go next year!
Glad I found your blog!
What a beautiful event and these crabs look great!!!! Love your outfit, the jacket is a super cool find!!!

You look lovely as always. Looks like a fun event...even though I'm not a crab fan!
@Kathy I looked back and realized this is the third time I have blogged about our crab feed. How time flies!
Bill will be fire chief for an indeterminate amount of time. The last chief was there for 16 years!
Glad you like the red theme...seemed appropriate this year. The two previous times I wore basic black. It was fun to change it up a little!
xo
Crab is one of my favourite things. I love your outfit, Adrienne, you look wonderful. The colour of your hair is so pretty.I don't like clanky jewellery either. It's always good to have a pair of shoes that don't torture you when you need to be on your feet for a long time.
Looks like a blast! And what a perfectly chic outfit for the occassion. You look gorgeous!
@vintagefrenchchic That sounds like a really fun fundraiser! That would make a great blog post, if you go. Would love to see what your old theatre looks like.
very chic outfit! love the zipper pockets on the pants- great detail!

@Val Sparkle Charm bracelets, although very cute, drive me nuts! I can't stand to hear them jangling around so I never buy them.
A Salmon Bake sounds delicious and fun! I love fresh wild salmon and Washington does have the best!
@Lady of Style I bet it is expensive! It's even expensive here in California where it's plentiful.
Thank you for stopping by! I am off to check out your blog.
That looks like so much fun. I love your red skinnies. You have the prettiest hair.
@Pam @ over50feeling40 I love crab, too. And this crab is so tasty! I like it plain with no sauces or butter. Just plain old crab.
@Suzanne Carillo Style Files Black and red is probably better on brunettes than redheads and blondes. Maybe too severe for lighter tresses?
I ended up getting another pair of CK Dolly pumps in a suede sand color for spring. I hope they are as lovely as my black ones.
@Patti I was a little disappointed that the hunter green shade is sold out in my size - I would have bought it on the spot!
Thank you for hosting another great Visible Monday, Patti!
@Ann, Heather and Sheila There is always next year, Heather!
Thank you for stopping by! Off to see your blog.
@Diane @ Haute Flashion Hi Diane!
I like red and black, too. Though I rarely wear red. It's one of those colors I have to be in the mood for.
I am heading over to your blog now. Thank you for stopping by!
Gorgeous look. The red trousers will feel great, and the jacket is beautiful.
You really do have a rich life. A wonderful family and community.
I adore your red skinnies. Man do they look good on you!
How fun! You hair is amazing and the red skinnies look great on you!

Yo Adrienne! It's me, Nico!
I love your outfit! I think red pants are perfect for a crab feed for some reason. I dig the classic look! Our local fire department has a pancake breakfast each year that is fabulous!
-Nico

The red pants were a fantastic choice for this event. I assume crabs are really messy to eat en mass, I've had the odd one in my time but I'm not a huge fan- they seemed a lot of hard work to et a feed!! We go to heaps of FUNdraisers. Hubby is a very generous person and an auctioneer by trade and so we are at every charity auction going (HE never refuses when asked!!!) He also does most of the MC work for town events and ringmaster at our local show. The kids and I always go with him, which forces me to occassionally 'work' the crowd as well! I'm not sure that I have as much fun as I would if he wasn't doing a job, but that is just the way it is. we are always the first there and the last to leave ANY PARTY!!!! hahahaha
oooh forgot to add that I love your shoes, but I don't own any with a pointy heel anymore, we have a gravel driveway and most events are on lawn, so that doesn't suit heels, plus they make me taller than hubby and I don't like that much. My heel are only tiny and as wide as!!!
I do love the red skinnies. But let's talk crabs. I grew up in MD and adore the taste, but we only got them June-Sept. Winter crabs...what a luxury!

I was thinking about you and your zipper jeans yesterday when I saw a woman in town with a similar pair! My specific thought was that she didn't wear them nearly as well as you did!
It's been the slowest winter on record for our little restaurant, so my favorite benefit is anything that brings us business! V-day approaches, and the weather is warming, so I persevere! BTW ... I work in heels all the time. It's good for your character.
You looked beautiful as always. You can certainly pull off some skinny jeans. :)
@DC in STYLE Thanks! I really love that blazer - it's been good to me.
Glad you stopped by!
@Lisa Not a crab fan? I love the stuff. Although I can only eat it three or four times a year - it's easy for me to get tired of, it's so rich!
What a fabulous event for a wonderful cause Adrienne. It's fun to hear how you and Bill have both stepped into your new roles. I understand that with some of the work my husband has done on the state level. Fun pics! You are rockin those red skinnies so cheers to you for that! xx
@Sulky Kitten The crab dinner was great - and as you can imagine, we were quite hungry by 10:30.
The shoes did a great job of not killing my feet, though my back really suffered the next day from being in heels all night. I am almost always in flats unless I dress up.
@Alison @ Get Your Pretty On Thank you, Alison!
Glad you stopped by today!
@Lindsey A. Turner I agree - the zippers make these pants! Thank you for dropping by today, Lindsey. I am off to see your blog!
@Marla Robinson That is so sweet of you to say! I do love my hair - and I owe it all to my hair dresser and my parents ;)
@josep-maria badia Thank you, Josep. And thank you for pinning my post on Pinterest!
@Debbi@SheAccessorizesWell Loved your comment today, Debbi. I do have a rich life! I am so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community.
And I do love those skinnies. My only qualm is that they are somewhat limiting but that's okay. I'll still wear them often!
@Babblings of a Mommy Thank you, Jenny! Off to check out your blog now :)
@Nico Saich Yo Nico!
I really should wear red to the crab feed every year. Black is always my go-to for the crab feed when I am not feeling fashionable or being lazy.
We have a pancake breakfast fundraiser too for Father's Day! I forgot about it until I read your comment :)
@Jodie aka Mummaducka'sKaos Us too - at least the last to leave part.
Crab is a labor intensive food - and very messy. We all wore our bibs. I always try to grab the big claws because they are meatier and easier to clean!
That is so great that you and your husband attend lots of fundraisers. I think it's an important part of being a member of one's community.
@Jodie aka Mummaducka'sKaosOh gosh...heels on a lawn - awful.
I ordered a pair of pumps that showed up today - they were so cute and sexy and pretty comfortable but were way too high for me. I would have been eye to eye with my 6'7" husband!
@Nicole Feliciano I have had Maryland crabs before and they are very tasty. I think they are a lot smaller than our Dungeness crabs - but maybe more flavorful, if I recall properly.
Thank you for stopping by today, Nicole!
@Jan Graham-McMillen Owning a restaurant seems so stressful! But fun, too. I hope you get lots and lots of business on Valentine's Day. Bill and I are going out to dinner - doing our part to support the local economy ;)
@Leigh Powell Hines Why, thank you Leigh!
@Heather Lindstrom It's been a pretty easy transition for us with Bill as chief. He has been with the department since 2001 so we already knew everyone.
I hope we get a chance to see each other soon!
xo
Just found your blog through Visible Monday. Love the zipper details on your pants. Looks like a fun event!

I just bought a pair of red skinnies from the Gap and I am in love with them!
You are more beautiful than any model, wowwwwwwwwwwwww.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Love the outfit. And you've got to love a great pair of comfortable pumps.
I'm glad to hear your crab bake was a huge success! I plan to wear red skinnies to the lobster dinner as well!
I have too many events and fundraisers on my plate right now...I'm looking forward to the end of May when they are all done!
Looks like a fun day! Love the red skinnies!

@Alice Warren Hi Alice! Thank you for stopping by. I love those zippers too - they make the pants.
Off to check out your blog!
@Sara Louise Gap is the best for decently priced denim and pants - especially the more trendy styles that you don't want to spend a lot on.
@Sacramento Amate Thank you, Sacramento! That made my day. xoxo
@Savvy Southern Chic Yes you do! Comfortable heels are hard to find.
@Suburban Princess We are skipping the lobster feed in Napa we went to last year - I wore red slacks for that.
Have fun at all your many events! I know you will ;)
@Amy Thanks! I love them too.
Off to see your blog!
I'm amazed it's possible to buy that much crab all at once!
It sounds like a fun event, and you look dazzling, as usual.
As for noisy jewelry, I don't mind it unless I'm at a concert.
You are gorgeous as ever my dear!
Adrienne a great post with perfect advice! Totally agree on all these things..More women need to read this.
Love the red pants with the zippers. Very pretty with the black jacket!
Hope you and Bill have a great Valentine's.
xo

It's a rule in my closet that all shoe must be comfortable, just like everything else. I love the Austin style from Nine West.
Sounds like a fun day, and you look super in the red skinny pants.
Visiting from pret-a-vivre.com.
Have a great week.
Majorly loving those red pants!
