How I Wear My: Sunglasses

Welcome to the 21st edition of How I Wear My

Sunglasses are an important accessory any time of year but now that it’s summer we won’t leave the house without them so Jill of Everything Just So and I thought July’s “How I Wear My” post should be devoted to shades.

Jill is looking modern and chic in her big dark purple sunglasses from Target that were just $20.

Amy of Denim and Dots looks ready for summer with her Marc Jacobs sunglasses, the only pair of aviators she has found that have worked for her. She loves that they look great with casual or dressy outfits.

Betasha of Appolonia’s Accessories wears wrap-around Jessica Simpson sunglasses.  She says they are very comfortable and, while not too dark, they still shade her from the sun.

Marcia, a reader, saw this photo of her daughter, Jennifer, on Facebook and decided to put on her similar shades, take a photo and make this great collage. How fun! I want to make one of these with my mom!

Silk Path Diary says her glasses are “an oversized style of subtle tortoiseshell by Jil Sander. They took about a year to find!” Well worth the effort, don’t you think?

Trina of Tea Time with Trina, says she never leaves home without a pair of sunnies in her bag. Usually she wears her white or aviator Ray Bans, but sometimes she likes to liven things up with these fun glasses!

Pam of Over 50 Feeling 40 wears her Carmen Marc Valvo sunglasses all over the Wild, Wild West where it is hot, hot, hot!!!

Ana, Mrs. American Made, is wearing her Kala Eyewear sunglasses while on her ranch in this photo. She says  “I also like this photo because my top is red, white and blue and it is very ‘Mrs. American Made’ ready for the 4th of July.”

Heather of Vintage French Chic has this to say about her darling shades: “I have had these Gucci sunglasses for oh, I don’t know, around ten years.  I picked them up for a QUARTER at a rummage sale.  I love them.  Even though I paid so little, I did invest in new polarized lenses which cost around $100.  But, overall, not a bad investment…especially for how long I have had them.  I adore these sunglasses!”

Gucci sunnies for a quarter? Way to go Heather!

Another first time participant to HIWM, Haley of Cheap Recipe Blog, wears sunglasses mostly out of necessity. She is extremely sensitive to sunlight, and contacts aren’t really an option for her so I wear prescription sunglasses all the time.

They are very stylish and a great shape and color for Haley.

Teresa, wife of New York City photographer Denton Taylor, wears sunglasses with a teal frame from SEE Eyewear in this fun, sporty photo.

Tracy of The Closet Shopper wears some fabulous Trés Noir cat eye sunglasses. Meow, Tracy!

Tamera of Tamera Beardsley, who lives in Southern California, says sunglasses are one of her favorite and necessary accessories. The perfect finish for any outfit!

And, as you can tell, Tamera’s sunglasses look lovely with her gorgeous statement necklaces, too!

Rowyn is my stepdaughter’s friend and co-writer of their quiet-for-now blog, Twinkle and Spice. Rowyn and Tori are in Lake Tahoe together at the moment, hanging out on the beach, shopping and just enjoying summer vacation!
Rowyn wears a pair of retro style glasses from Target.
And Tori, my stepdaughter, wears a pair of aviator Ray-Bans that her dad bought her while we were all in Paris last March.
I wanted to try the cat-eye trend but I didn’t want to spend lots on a designer pair for fear that I wouldn’t wear them enough. So when I came across these shades by Cheap Monday while building my Amazon Collections, I had to give them a try.
I’ve worn them several times since getting them a couple of weeks ago. I love the tortoise-shell patterned frame and the not too dramatic cat eye style. They’re not bad purchase for less than $30!
One of the pleasures of summer is the parties that happen over the course of it. Whether they are rooftop cocktails, park picnics, backyard barbecues, or beach bonfires, they seem even more special during the fleeting days of summer, don’t you think?
Please join us in August for “How I Wear My: Casual Party Outfit”. We’d love to see how you style a relaxed summer party look. Send a picture to Jill or to me by July 31.
Thank you to everyone who submitted photos this month. It’s fun to see all the variations of sunglasses from retro to cat-eye and wrap-around to aviator and more. And it’s even better seeing so many beautiful faces, both familiar and new!
Make sure you visit Jill’s blog, Everything Just So, for even more stylish women in fantastic sunglasses!
One more thing! Google Reader went kaput.

Everyone looks so good! It makes me want to expand my sunglasses wardrobe past the two pairs I own. I especially love the cat-eye shades! XO, Jill

Fun post! I love the mother daughter one…too funny. Your new shades are really chic, Adrienne. After seeing all these glamorous photos of everyone, I think my glasses are looking a little dated. ;)

Isn’t that mom/daughter photo the best? I think it’s so funny.
I don’t think your glasses are dated one bit! They are classic and will be “in” for many years to come. I still can’t believe you got them for a quarter!

Thank YOU so much for joining us. I think your Jil Sanders are lovely. I have never tried JS sunglasses before. I will have to try some on next time I come across them.
Hope to see you again next month!

What a fun group event- I love the mom/daughter collage- I need to do that with my mama! And Trina’s shades (and sly cat grin) get the prize for best shades ever!

Such fun looks! The Gucci pair are fabulous, but I’m really hankering for a pair of cat eye glasses right now. I love yours Adrienne and also adore Tracy’s. I’ve got several pairs. I buy them cheap at thrift stores and always have a pair in my car, and wherever else they end up. Thanks for the great round-up!

Great images. Some of you have some gorgeous bargain sunnies. I’ve always been worried about bargain sunnies as I read the eye-protection is inferior. I don’t know if that is true or not. Would be interested to know what you think ;-)

      Van,

I do have concerns over glasses that aren’t polarized so I try to wear a pair of my Ray-Bans with polarized lenses for days when I will be outside a lot. I really should wear them all the time – did you read Vintage French Chic’s post today about eye health? It made me think I need to wear sunglasses more often and with the proper lenses.

Adrienne, these are are so delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed the article from (vintage French Chic’s post), very informative and a great reminder.
I’m really loving those cat-eye frames this year and I just might have to break down and buy a (good) pair with polarized lenses. You make them look so stylish. Thanks again for the fun “how I wore” party.

    Hi Adrienne,
I loved this post, I wish I had the time to send you a pic of my cherished sun glasses, I see more clearly with them than with my glasses, but I’m surrounded by mess and tens of boxes….maybe next month from our new Dutch home….

Ooh, I love your sunglasses! All of these ladies look fabulous in their shades. :)

I wanted to snap a pic for this month, but I ran out of time! My go-to sunglasses this summer have been a pair of Ray-Bans found in a parking lot. Can’t beat free!

    Adrienne,
I love when you gals have these posts. Everyone is so stylish and inspiring with how they make things their own. I am like you a bit shy about the cat’s eye glasses. I like your modifies version. So pretty on you!

    xx
